Converting PDFs to Raster Images using Paint.NET

This tutorial requires both Paint.NET and a plugin for reading the PDF file type

Download Paint.NET here: https://www.getpaint.net/download.html

Download the PDF FileType plugin for Paint.NET here: https://github.com/otuncelli/Portable-Document-Format-Plugin-for-Paint.NET/

  1. Open Paint.NET and drag + drop your PDF file into the window.

  2. Click Open

  3. In the PDF/AI File Type Plugin window:

    1. Select which pages you’d like to import.

    2. Click the Blend onto dropdown and select White to give the imported PDF a white background (otherwise it will have a transparent background).

    3. Under Dimensions, set Width and Height to your desired resolution.

    4. Click OK.

  4. Click File > Save As… or press Ctrl + Shift + S.

  5. Use the Save as type dropdown to select your desired image format (e.g. PNG, JPEG, TIFF, etc.)

  6. Rename your file if you desire, although it’s recommended to have the name match the source PDF it was created from.

  7. Click Save to save your PDF to a raster image file.

    1. You may need to click OK on some additional screens that pop up, as Paint.NET will want you to define the exported image’s quality.
