Aligning One Viewport to Match Another

These steps should walk you through how to rotate, position, and scale a viewport in one paper space to match a viewport in another.

In the example, I have Viewport 1 in position and will move/scale/rotate Viewport 2 to match it.

  1. In the paper space of Viewport 1, draw a polyline around the edge of your viewport, snapping to the corners.

  2. Enter the command CHSPACE to move the polyline from paper space to the model space.

  3. In the paper space of Viewport 2, enter the command ALIGNSPACE and follow the command line prompts:

    1. Select what should be the top left corner of your viewport polyline in model space.

    2. Select the top right corner of the model space polyline.

    3. Select the top left corner of Viewport 2 in paper space.

    4. Select the top right corner of Viewport 2 in paper space.

    5. Press ENTER to align the viewport using your specified points.

  4. Viewport 2 should now be exactly aligned with the polyline you created in step 1, and thus aligned with Viewport 1.

Note: This will leave a polyline in your model space. Make sure to put it on its own layer to keep your workspace clean, or delete it once you’re done.
