Setting the Coordinate System of a Mapinfo .MIF file

Within the Mapinfo .MIF file, the line beginning with CoordSys defines the coordinate system to which the data is projected.

For example,

CoordSys Earth Projection 8, 116, "m", 147, 0, 0.9996, 500000, 10000000

Where “116” refers to the datum, and “147” the zone.

To change a .MIF file’s projection to GDA2020 / MGA-55, set the datum to 1028 and the zone to 147, which should look like:

CoordSys Earth Projection 8, 1028, "m", 147, 0, 0.9996, 500000, 10000000
