Finding the Civil 3D version from a .DWG file

AutoCAD Civil 3D saves a version tag in the first few characters of .DWG files.

To find which version of Civil 3D was used to create a .DWG file,

  1. Select the file in File Explorer

  2. Right-click and select Open With > Notepad

    1. If Notepad does not show up, you may have to select Choose another app and select Notepad from the Other options section of the popup.

  3. The first few characters on the first line should appear as letters and numbers (e.g. AC1032). Use the below table to find which Civil 3D version this tag refers to.
